Visit Delft! - Final concept

After a long way we came up with our final concept and a presentation video.

Those are the final concepts of our map:

It includes both information about representative places of the city and an abstract map.

In order to direct and inform people, visual cues were used:
  • Color gradient in both, yellow circles and gray lines, indicate the direction where visitors should start walking.
  • The proximity of the icons, of the desired direction, to the starting point triggers people into following this route; during the first test in Rotterdam, people showed more interest on walking towards those places located closer.
  • Shopping, museum and theatre icons are used to indicate the type of activities to be done in the different locations.
  • The street names give an idea about the location of the places in the city
  • Use of simple images of the representative places/activities in Delft makes the map more informative and useful for tourists.

SUPPORT TEST

An online survey was done to broad the results and come up with the conclusion of weather the concept guided the visitors on the desired direction while informing them about the activities.
In general, the 22 participants that filled the questionnaire (11 per direction) noticed the differences between the concepts; but this issue was not an obstacle for them to follow the route that was being "pointed".
It is important to know that most of the tourists would visit delft because of its cultural attractions (museums), this could be the reason why the P direction has less influence on people's choice. Another reason may be, that people intuitively follow a "clockwise" direction.
